LGBTQIA+ Discrimination

Everyone in the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Aseual) community gets discriminated against in one way or another because being “gay” isn’t “normal” being gay is more accepted now but is still a problem we face. Being part of the LGBTQIA community I myself have been discriminated against. Definitely guys get it worse than girls but when it comes to nonbinary people and transgender they get told that they aren’t valid. They get told that they will never be what they strive to be. Another way that transgenders and nonbinary people get discriminated by are when people do not respect pronouns or prefered names.

Within schools it’s a very enclosed environment and you have to be around these people every single day and if you’re gay you get looked at different. People are definitely more rude whether they realize it or not. You get started at in the halls or walking in public holding hands for example one time with my ex (my girlfriend at the time) were at a park holding hands and being a couple and there was this guy there with his kid and he came up to us and told us that god has a path for us and that this is just a road bump and that he’ll find us good men one day. Also with my other ex girlfriend we would be in the halls at school and we had this guy come up to us and say sex isn’t real until there was a guy involved and for days he asked to have a threesome and was extremely disrespectful toward us and that’s part of discrimination.

It’s scary for anyone who is part of a minority to go some places because of discrimination against them.  Its sad that we live in a world that is so close minded where you can not even love who out want to love based on gender, religion, race and ethnic background. We will always get judged for everything and that isn’t how we should be but since the beginning of time that has been what we were taught to do. We need to break the cycle and break discrimination.

According to this website Brandon Gallie states some statistics about the LGBTQ community

  • The LGBT community earns as little as $0.68 for every dollar that a heterosexual man earns, even when qualifications are equal or even greater for the LGBT worker.
  • The percentage of the US workforce that identifies itself as being LGBT: 4%.
  • 21%: That’s the percentage of LGBT employees who report having been discriminated against in hiring, promotions and pay.
  • 1 out of every 25 complaints made about workplace discrimination comes from LGBT employees.

  1. Elissa, you have a lot of pertinent information about your topic. I would, however, like to see you integrate your quotes into your writing rather than just list them at the end. The overall message is good!
